NEW DELHI:

India’s first Rafale fighter jet will land in September. 35 more Rafale jets will soon follow. In a signal of appeal for strengthened Indo-French relations, the French Government announced the Rafale Delivery just ahead of the meeting between the French Foreign Affairs Minister Jean Baptiste Lemoyne and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Minister of State Hardeep Singh Puri.

Mr Lemoyne’s trip is the first ministerial visit to India from France in the Modi 2. Prime Minister Modi will attend the G-7 Summit in August.

The Rafale delivery announcement also signals a light at the end of the tunnel regarding the controversy of the Prime Minister’s announcement in the previous term for the direct purchase of Jets, an issue which the opposition had raised during the Lok Sabha election campaign.
